Financial Inclusion

According to research, roughly one-third of all adults globally, lack access to financial services because they lack assets or credit from commercial banks. Having access to financing would be very beneficial for both short-term and long-term planning, emergencies, resources for farming investments, insurance, risk management, climate resilience, and other things.

Through AFRICOOP programs, co-ops in Africa are able to better serve their members' financial needs by bringing "unbankable" communities into contact with them. Financial cooperatives offer secure locations for accumulating savings, obtaining loans, launching small enterprises, and receiving insurance to help with unexpected catastrophe recovery. We contribute to the strengthening of the entire microfinance industry in the nations where we operate by fostering good governance, developing capacity, and utilizing cutting-edge technologies. We can also share innovations, best practices, and lessons gained through our knowledge exchange programs.

Youth and Gender Inclusion

We work to decrease inequality and encourage the full participation of women, youth, and other marginalized groups in community development by giving them access to resources, work opportunities, and cooperative education. Research have demonstrated that young, enterprising women have constructed solidarity economies and community are more resilient and with less inequities. People that work creatively together to improve their communities create shared wealth.

Rooted in cooperative values, we improve livelihoods by creating dependable market-based opportunities and taking into account women, youth, and underrepresented groups. We use an evidence-based approach that supports local capacity building, market facilitation, and innovative solutions whose viability is assessed and implemented in collaboration with commercial and local partners.

Agriculture and Food Security

The demand for higher-quality food is driving up demand on already scarce natural resources like land and water due to factors including urbanization, population growth, economic growth, and shifting dietary habits. There will be 3.4 billion additional people to feed when the world's population reaches 10 billion in 2050. Agriculture needs to boost output, boost yields, adjust to the changing climate, and modify practices to waste less food.

"Smallholder farmers in developing nations are known to have a significant impact on the global food security system."

In Africa, they are responsible for up to 90% of food production, making up around one-third of the global food supply. On the other hand, they frequently encounter difficulties including inadequate support networks and profitability. Smallholder farmers must get financial, technological, and climate support in order to guarantee global food security.

AFRICOOP collaborates with its partners to integrate co-operative model to provide local community led solutions in order to generate income and ensure food security.
